This guide is written in plain language to help parents and guardians understand GILI and the tools available to keep young players safe. It is a companion to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, which are the binding documents. (This guide is informational and not legal advice.)

What is GILI?

GILI is a friendly, social virtual reality (VR) game for Meta Quest. Players explore an ocean world, hatch and raise sea-creature partners, ride on their backs, cook at campfires, and team up with friends to discover deeper waters together. It's free to play, with optional in-game purchases.

GILI is designed to be welcoming for a younger audience, with a focus on care, companionship, and cooperation rather than competition.

Who can play?

• Ages 13 and up can play with your permission and supervision.
• Ages 10–12 can play only through a Meta Parent-Managed Account that you set up and approve. Meta lets you review and approve each app your child wants to download.
• We may use trusted tools (such as k-ID and Meta's parental controls) to help confirm age and get a parent's approval where needed.

What your child can do in GILI (and how we keep it safe)

🎙️ Voice chat & messages

GILI has real-time voice chat with nearby players, plus short text "whispers." This is part of the fun of playing together — but it also means your child may talk with people you don't know.

• Players can mute, block, and report anyone at any time.
• We use automated, AI-assisted moderation and human review to act on abuse and harassment.
• We remind players not to share personal information (real name, address, school, etc.) in chat.

🤝 Playing with others

Kids can make in-game friends and play co-op. You can manage social features and who your child can connect with through Meta's parental controls.

🛡️ A kinder world by design

GILI centers on raising and caring for creatures. Certain gentle sea animals are protected in-game, and the community rules ask everyone to play kindly.

In-game purchases 💎

GILI is free to play, but offers optional purchases using Pearls (premium currency) and Shells (earned in-game), plus bundles like a one-time Starter Pack.

• Purchases are handled by the Meta Store, not by us.
• Please note: virtual items and currency are licensed, not owned, and are generally non-refundable and non-transferable.
• You control spending: use Meta's parental controls to require approval for purchases or turn them off entirely. Parents/guardians are responsible for purchases made through accounts they manage.

Comfort & wellbeing in VR

• VR is best enjoyed in short sessions with breaks and a clear play space.
• Check the comfort rating and follow Meta's health & safety guidance for your child's headset.
• Please make sure your child has enough room to play safely.

Your privacy rights as a parent

You can, at any time:

• Review the personal information we hold about your child,
• Ask us to delete it, and
• Refuse or withdraw consent to further collection.

Quick checklist for parents ✅

• Set up a Meta Parent-Managed Account for children under 13 (ages 10–12).
• Turn on Meta parental controls for downloads, purchases, and social features.
• Talk with your child about not sharing personal info in voice/text chat.
• Show them how to mute, block, and report.
• Decide together on healthy play times and breaks.
